🏳️‍⚧️TRANSGENDER LIVES MATTER IN HONG KONG AND EVERYWHERE

Aside from official indifference and a cavalier attitude towards transgender people, our society’s understanding of s*x and gender is regrettably backward.

Official Statement from Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 regarding diverse opinions in Hong Kong Legislative Council on 9 June 2021

GGHK's unique combination of sport, arts, culture, fun and community is bringing together diverse groups of people from all over the world to converge on Hong Kong in November 2022. Under the theme of “Unity In Diversity”, the Games aim to promote unity and inclusion to help Hong Kong truly live up to its potential as a world-class city.

Hong Kong outbid 17 other cities in 2016 to win the rights to host the Games. They are the first global sports event of this kind in Asia and we appreciate all the support we’ve already received over the past five years from the general public, government, corporations, and hundreds of volunteers. The Games are organised and funded by the community, participants, commercial partners and sponsors.

Economic impact research has revealed that the Games will bring HKD $1billion (USD dollar 128 million) of economic benefits to Hong Kong, with approximately 12,000 participants and 75,000 spectators flying in from 100 countries.

We understand that there will always be diverse views in Legco, and we respect our legislators’ right to share them. For our part, we will continue to engage with the Government to ensure that the Games live up to the ideals that were promulgated from the very first events in 1982. We will do our best to change hearts and minds, engage, and promote the ideals on which the Games were founded: Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best.

The Games are about bringing people together through sports, arts and culture, open to all and everyone. What Hong Kong needs more than ever is unity and this is at the core of everything we do as organisers of the Games. There’s still much for us to do as a community and this is the first step in making it happen. We will do our best to continue to earn the public’s support.

Thank you all again for your support!

Books are essential to shaping the reality of the next generation. By censoring and silencing the perspectives of others, we are building a society of intolerance and close-mindedness. Please show your support!
