Recently, a TV drama filmed extensively in Choi Hung Estate, bringing its internal living space, corridors, basketball courts, shops and public spaces into popular platforms. Although television drama is not documentary film-making, it can become an unexpected form of cultural record. Through storytelling and mass audiences, these productions capture the atmosphere of a place, the rhythms of neighbourhood life, and the emotional connections people have with the estate.

The conservation of public housing heritage has extended beyond architecture alone. Recording communities through film, photography, oral history, and popular culture has become an equally valuable part of Hong Kong’s urban memory. While conservation is important, the safety, functionality, and living quality of residents must come first, as the built environment was originally created to serve people and community life.

Had the chance to stay in a 90-year-old Dosi Hanok in Seoul and spend some time understanding this historic architecture. Dosi Hanok differs from the traditional rural Hanok: many were built during the population boom of the 1920s to 1940s, often in U-shaped layouts that formed concentrated residential clusters.

The small exterior service opening is particularly interesting, as it was designed for everyday exchange of food and objects while preserving privacy and maintaining a connection to the alleyway. The dwarf door helped reduce winter heat loss while still allowing practical access.

The courtyard creates an open view within the house and also serves as a shared family space. The paper screens provide shade, while the inserted leaves and flowers are unique decorative touches that add a special character to the home.

之前見到在觀塘海濱、中環、尖沙咀有cantopop party覺得幾有趣，年青一代喜歡80 ／ 90年代的粵語流行曲，以為是少數，原來GenZ有這種「安樂式懷舊主義」，通過認識以前的文化去認識這地方；也有在歷史建築演奏廣東歌的活動，把經典流行曲重新包裝，迎合今日的口味也帶來新鮮感。保留了的歷史建築除了說它自己的故事，也可以推動本地流行文化，是個不錯的配搭！
