💬 'My partner will get everything if I die — we don't need Wills.'

This is one of the most common myths we hear and unfortunately, for many couples, it simply isn't true. 😔

Under intestacy rules (what happens when there's no Will):
❌ Unmarried partners have no automatic right to inherit — no matter how long you've been together
❌ If you have children, your spouse may not inherit your full estate
❌ Stepchildren are not automatically included
❌ Charities or friends you care about receive nothing

A Will takes away the uncertainty and makes sure the people — and causes — you love are protected. 💙

✔️ Deputies must report to the Office of the Public Guardian every year

What happens when someone you love can no longer make decisions for themselves — and there's no Power of Attorney in place? 💙

This is where the Court of Protection comes in. It's a specialist court that can appoint someone (called a deputy) to manage another person's finances or welfare when they no longer have the mental capacity to do so themselves.

It's something no one wants to think about — but knowing it exists, and understanding when it applies, can make a huge difference for families in this situation.

This week we're also covering guardianship — an important area for families where children or vulnerable adults need someone legally appointed to act for them.
