What a fantastic day supporting the Millie Wright Children’s Charity Fun Run over the weekend.

A huge well done to our own Dawn and Tracey, who took part in this brilliant community event helping to raise money for families at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

We were proud to sponsor the event and to see so many volunteers, supporters and local organisations come together to make such a difference.

Thank you to everyone who ran, volunteered, donated and helped organise such an inspiring day. Community spirit was out in full force.

A recent Court of Appeal decision has clarified an important issue for business tenants and landlords: does having a lease renewal option affect a tenant’s statutory right to renew under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954?

The decision confirms that tenants do not lose those protections simply because a renewal option exists. Until an option is exercised, business tenants can still choose the route that works best for them.

Visit our website to read Richard Hugill’s latest blog, where he explores what this ruling means in practice and the impact it could have when negotiating and managing business leases.

In a case decided earlier this month, the Court of Appeal confirmed an unusual but important point for parties to business leases. The key issue The case...

Sunday saw a select group of the Harrowells team lace up their trainers and take on the brilliantly organised Haxby 10k.

We were proud to support such a fantastic local event and even prouder of everyone who took part.

A great day all round, made even better by some surprisingly impressive running performances considering the "training plans" involved.

Well done to Matt Rowley, Matthew Hayward, Rebecca Jennings, Charlotte Cousins, Nina Prudom and Emily Hudson 👏

We were delighted to attend the official opening event of the The Lambert in Thirsk, which marked an important new chapter in the Herriot Hospice’s care for the local community.

As a Silver Sponsor of Herriot Hospice Homecare for 2026, Harrowells is proud to support the charity and the valuable work it carries out across North Yorkshire.

The opening of The Lambert represents an exciting expansion of the hospice’s services. While Herriot Hospice has always been able to provide care and support in people’s homes, the new facility now allows patients to receive specialist care at the hospice in Thirsk, as well as offering respite care and support for those caring for loved ones with terminal illnesses.

Alongside practical care, the hospice also provides emotional wellbeing and mental health support for patients and families during an incredibly difficult time.

The opening event welcomed local businesses and supporters, who have all played an important part in bringing the project to life. Harrowells Head of Business Development and Marketing, Peter Mills, alongside Herriot Hospice’s Sophie Fisher and Deputy CEO, Tina Hedges, spoke during the event about the importance of community collaboration and the positive difference the hospice will make for local families.

We would like to congratulate everyone involved in the opening of The Lambert and look forward to continuing our support for Herriot Hospice throughout the year ahead.

At our latest night out, the Harrowells team joined Ink and craft for a beach-themed paint & sip evening.

It was a fantastic way to unwind together, and there was plenty of hidden artistic talent and lots of impressive creations!

Big changes to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) came into force on 6 April 2026 under the Employment Rights Act 2025.
Here’s what employers need to know:

• SSP is now payable from day one of sickness (no more 3 waiting days)

• The earnings threshold has been removed, so more employees qualify

• Pay is now 80% of average weekly earnings or £123.25 (whichever is lower)

These reforms significantly widen eligibility and may increase short-term absence costs, so it’s important to review policies and payroll processes.
