Last year, the DVSA changed the rules about “opting out” of Driver CPC training for qualified drivers.

These changes affect drivers who want to work in Europe and have already done a National Driver CPC course.

What to do?

To keep your Driver CPC (so you can drive a lorry, bus, or coach), you must complete 35 hours of training every 5 years.

If you want to drive professionally in both the UK and Europe, all of this training must be from International courses only.

You can now stop National courses from counting towards your training total. To do this, use the “check your Driver CPC periodic training hours” service and choose “opt out.”

What happens if you don’t opt out?

If your training includes any National courses when your Driver Qualification Card (DQC) is issued, you will only get a National Driver CPC.
This means:

* You cannot drive professionally in Europe
* You cannot reuse any international training hours to get an International DQC later.
