It was indeed a brilliant day of celebration and connection as we welcomed our guests to our new Windsor offices and to also mark our 15th year of serving the community. Among other things attendees were treated to English Sparkling Wine grown right here in Old Windsor and to fine cheeses sourced from the Berkshire area, all provided by local suppliers.

It truly was an honour as well to have His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire, Mr. Andrew Try, lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony for us, to hear St. George’s House’s Mr. Michael Pitfield’s reflections on how Windsor has grown over the last 15 years, and to learn about Thames Hospice’s Trunks Across the Thames project through Jane Symmons. Next stop, Long Walk Live in June. See you there!

Last Thursday we had the pleasure of joining St Peter & St James Hospice for a presentation on Wills, LPAs and planning for the future, hosted by our Private Client lawyer, Carole Rowe.

It was a valuable opportunity to speak with attendees about this important – and often misunderstood – topic, and to answer their questions in a relaxed setting over tea and cake.

A heartfelt thank you to the Hospice for welcoming us, and to the entire team for the incredible support you provide every day to individuals and families within the community. Your work makes a real difference.

If you would like to discuss making a Will or Lasting Power of Attorney with a legal professional, we’re always here to help – please feel free to get in touch:

Our Operations Support Manager, Zara Bird, bravely took part in St Wilfrid's Hospice, Eastbourne Fire Walk fundraiser on Saturday (28th March).

Two fire lanes measuring three metres long were set up outside the hospice building in Broadwater Way, Eastbourne.

Brave participants aged between 18 to 83 walked barefoot across the coals, which were burning at a temperature of 200 to 300 degrees Celsius.

Nearly £20,000 has already been raised from the event, with money still coming in - a fantastic achievement for a very worthy cause.

Interest rates, prices of oil and gas, train fares to first time buyers - the latest episode of The Weekly Consumer Report, by Parfitt Cresswell is out now.

Listen here: www.parfittcresswell.com/podcasts

In this episode:

💫Iran war
• Iran war inflicted highest oil and gas prices for three years
• But President Trump then announced that peace was near
• Energy bills were predicted to increase by £332 a year from July no longer feared
• Wholesale gas prices were up by more than 30%
• Brent crude oil price is at $113 per barrel. It then fell to $102. It was $72 before the war
• There are still fixed price tariffs available. Should be cheaper
• Check with comparison websites
• Avoid the main cold callers offering fixed prices. Not likely to be the best deal.

💫Interest rates:
• Around a thousand fixed price mortgages have been withdrawn this month
• Average fixed price rates are more than 5% - less than 4% in February.
• Tracker mortgages are cheapest loans on offer but interest rates could increase as early as June.
• Share prices in the UK have fallen back to 2025 levels.
• But do not make a loss until you sell.

💫Low pay:
• Almost 400 companies failed to pay the minimum wage to all their staff.
• They had to pay £7.3m to employees and £12.6 million in penalties
• 60,000 employees were underpaid by companies such as Costa and KPMG.

💫First-time buyers:
• Average for first-time home buyers is now 34
• They need larger deposits and often help from the Bank of Mum and Dad
• But first homes now tend to be bigger and better quality and more likely to be houses instead of flats.

💫Contactless cards:
• Banks can now increase the spending limits for contactless cards
• Most have decided to keep the £100 limit

💫Train fares:
• Holders of rail cards will face extra checks to make sure they get the correct fare.
• The complex system has resulted in people being sold tickets that are not valid for their journeys.
• Meanwhile Delay Repay is being made easier to claim.
