Use your mobile phone to take photographs and video evidence of the disrepair and keep it in a safe place

If you have become a victim of a violent attack then you may be able to claim compensation from the British Government via the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.

You might be able to claim compensation if you are a victim of a violent crime that includes: -

- You were injured:
- A close relative died:
- You saw the crime happen to a loved one (or were there immediately afterwards):
- You paid for the funeral of the person who died.

Victim of ‘Hit & Run’ driver awarded £40,000 damages.

On her way to meet friends one evening, Helen was crossing a minor road when suddenly a car came speeding around the corner. Helen didn’t have chance to see, or hear the car coming, and the driver of the car didn’t see her. Helen was knocked to the ground forcefully, and the driver didn’t stop. Helen hit her head and suffered from mild concussion, but incredibly she didn’t have any broken bones.

CCTV footage of the accident enabled police to track down the driver, but he didn’t have a valid license, and wasn’t insured to be driving.

Helen contacted Graham M Riley & Co to ask for help in obtaining compensation. Even though the driver didn’t have insurance, Helen’s solicitors found out that the vehicle he was driving, was covered by an insurance policy, and brought a claim against that Insurer.

At first the Insurer offered to settle the claim for £10,000. After Helen’s solicitor gathered medical evidence and presented it to the Insurer, they increased their offer to £25,000. Helen’s solicitor advised her that her claim was worth more than the Insurer was offering.

Finally, after issuing court proceedings the Insurer agreed to pay Helen £40,000.
