Catherine Haworth awarded “Highly Commended” Consultant Solicitor of the Year 2026

Catherine was recently awarded Highly Commended Consultant Solicitor of the Year 2026 at the Modern Law Awards 2026. Catherine joined Avon & Somerset Family Law in July 2025 as a consultant solicitor, bringing with her vast expertise on dealing with highly complex children act matters and specialising in domestic abuse matters.

Catherine accepts legal aid clients as well as non-legal aid matters and is able to work flexibly around the needs of her clients.

Aside from her legal work, Catherine has also been involved heavily in campaigning for the Animal Protection Disclosure Scheme (Holly’ Law) and has attended several parliamentary meetings. She most recently attended a meeting with DEFRA and the Home Office to discuss potential changes to the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (Claire’s Law) and to the Statutory Guidance on Domestic Abuse to include pet abuse, with an aim to strengthen the understanding of the strong links between abuse to animals and abuse to people.

Catherine is hosting a roundtable at Parliament in June sponsored by Ruth Jones MP where she will be joined by leaders in the animal welfare sector to discuss the proposed changes.

In Coronation Street, viewers have been watching Theo’s behaviour towards Todd become increasingly controlling and physically abusive.

This isn’t just drama for TV. Coercive or controlling behaviour can happen in any relationship, regardless of gender or sexuality. It may come from a partner, ex-partner, or family member.

It involves ongoing or repeated psychological and emotional abuse, with or without violence, which has a serious effect on the victim.

It’s a criminal offence.

If you’re being isolated, intimidated, or harmed by someone or if something about your relationship doesn’t feel right, you can report to us online ( https://orlo.uk/AgCON), at a police station or by calling 101. Always call 999 if it’s happening now and you or someone you know is in danger.

You are not to blame for what is happening and you are not alone.

You can also call the Refuge National Domestic Abuse Helpline (https://orlo.uk/x3wav) on 0808 2000 247, Next Link's (https://orlo.uk/SLqD0) local Domestic Abuse advice and support helpline on 0800 4700 280 or the Somerset Domestic Abuse service (https://orlo.uk/qvo2F) on 0800 69 49 999. Mankind (https://orlo.uk/UkPWs) helps men escaping domestic abuse and can be contacted on 0808 800 1170.
