How We Work with Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs)
Clear roles. Joined-up planning. Better outcomes.
At Lifetime Trustees Ltd, our role is to help clients put in place clear, effective, and robust estate-planning arrangements, including wills, trusts, and succession planning.
Good estate planning increasingly depends on close coordination with financial planning, particularly where pensions, inheritance tax, and long-term family planning are involved. That is why we work collaboratively with Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs).
Our role
We specialise in:
• Wills and will trusts
• Pension (Pilot) Trusts and other lifetime trusts
• Estate and succession planning
• Inheritance tax structuring (from a legal and estate-planning perspective)
• Protecting family intentions across generations
We do not provide financial advice or accountancy advice, and we do not recommend specific investments, pension products, or financial strategies.
The role of your financial adviser
Your Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) typically advises on:
• Pension arrangements and death benefit options
• Investments and asset allocation
• Retirement planning and income strategies
• Financial product selection and ongoing management
This advice is regulated separately and complements — rather than replaces — estate planning advice.
How we work together
Where appropriate, and always with your consent, we:
• Liaise with your existing IFA to ensure pension arrangements align with your will and trust planning
• Review Expressions of Wish alongside your wider estate structure
• Help avoid unintended tax consequences caused by misaligned planning
• Ensure responsibilities are clear, coordinated, and documented
This joined-up approach is particularly important in light of recent and upcoming changes to pension and inheritance tax rules.
What if you don’t have a financial adviser?
If you do not currently have an IFA, we can introduce you to highly qualified, independent, and trusted financial advisers with whom we regularly work.
• Any introduction is without obligation
• You remain free to choose whether to proceed
• Advice is provided independently of Lifetime Trustees
•
Why this approach matters
Estate planning works best when:
• Legal structures reflect financial reality
• Pension death benefits align with family intentions
• Inheritance tax planning is considered holistically
• Professional roles are clear and properly coordinated
Working collaboratively helps ensure your arrangements are effective, flexible, and future-proofed.
