Participants, we hope you're excited about the challenge ahead.. We look forward to welcoming you at Cairncastle Primary School on Saturday (6th June 2026). 🀝

You will have read the following information on our race entry page and your race entry confirmation email, but please can we ask you to take another look - to ensure that you can take part!

Mandatory Kit:
All participants MUST carry the items below for the duration of the race. You will be asked at Registration if you have the mandatory kit – the responsibility is then on you to ensure you carry it and are self-sufficient for the event.

🟑 Map of the entire race route (colour).
⚫ Whistle.
🟑 Compass (phone not accepted).
⚫ Waterproof jacket with integral hood and taped seams (windproof not acceptable).
🟑 Waterproof trousers with taped seams (windproof not acceptable).
⚫ Hat and gloves (buff acceptable).
🟑 Emergency food, equivalent to one chocolate bar.
⚫ Foil blanket.
🟑 Drinking vessel capable of carrying a minimum of 330ml.
⚫ A fully charged mobile phone will also be required.

*This list is a minimum requirement!

As per NIMRA Rules, Hiking Poles are NOT PERMITTED at this Championship race.

Participants will not be permitted to start the race, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, should they not have the equipment listed.

We would also recommend appropriate off-road mountain running shoes, or trail shoes at a minimum. These are a strong recommendation as opposed to a mandatory requirement, like the above list.

Random kit checks will take place at various stages of the race, including the finish line. Anyone found without the relevant kit will be disqualified.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT Spar Ballygally πŸ™πŸΌ

The SPAR shop in the beautiful Ballygally will once again be kindly supplying refreshments to our participants at next Saturday's Cairncastle Classic Fell Race.

The shop is a short distance from Race HQ, so make sure and call in for some pre and post race supplies.

NOTE: It has (arguably) the best ice cream in town and there's always a good bargain to be had.

Go see for yourself! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜‰πŸ–€πŸ’›

⚫🟑 BELFAST CITY MARATHON & RELAY 🟑⚫

On Sunday 3rd May 2026 twenty East Coast AC athletes made the short journey to Belfast to take part in the 44th running of the Belfast City Marathon and relay. This is one of the pinnacle events in the Northern Ireland athletics calendar and the largest mass participation event in our country, with up to 24000 people taking part.

Our athletes had put in months and months of consistent training, long runs, early starts, late finishes and supported all the way by our coaching team, with expert guidance and advice.

The iconic city marathon starts at Stormont and covers all four corners of the city. The race weaved its way through Upper Newtownards Road, Castlereagh Road, Ormeau Park and onto the streets of Belfast, past former starting point, City Hall. Runners then headed out Donegall Road through Boucher Road to Finaghy and back along the Falls Road, Shankill Road, Crumlin Road, Belfast Waterworks and making their way back through the city centre again, past the 'Big Fish', before what seems like a long finish up Ormeau Road and down Ravenhill Road and it Ormeau Park, where an electric atmosphere welcomed all finishers.

The weather conditions were not as hot as London, a week previous and what could only be described as a perfect day for marathon running. Grey, overcast, no wind and low temperatures. Exactly what our athletes wanted for race day.

In the main marathon itself, our first runner home was James Wilson, with what was a huge PB performance. James came home in 3:13:56, knocking a staggering four minutes off his previous best time in Valencia, last December (2025). A very special day for our hard working and determined club captain.

David Brennan was next to athlete home, in what was only his second marathon. Running a super disciplined race, David crossed the line in 3:28:04, having lapped up the superb atmosphere in the city on race day. A lot more to come over the 26.2 miles from this classy athlete.

Laura Simpson was our marathon debutant. After delivering a strong and consistent training block, Laura ran with real style, coming home in an excellent time of 5:15:36. This was a superb effort from an athlete that works so hard and displayed fantastic dedication. An achievement that we're all proud of!

Matt Maguire was taking on his second marathon, but unfortunately had to withdraw around the nine mile mark having felt unwell. We are looking forward to seeing Matt back on the start line soon.

Our relay team made up of Brian Maltman, Blaine Stewart, Chris Davis, Gavin McKay and Justin Maxwell had an excellent time out on the streets of our capital city. This team finished in a magnificent time of 3:03:11, for 25th place overall and 14th all male team. An incredible performance from a great team.

Also representing different work and charity teams were Jemma Dougherty, Jacque Hood, Sharon Jackson, Jennifer Lloyd, Cheryl Robinson, Karl Joyce, Andrea Jamison, Lillian Magee, Steven Beggs, Ayinta and Dewi Russell. All members were doing their own teams proud and possibly getting the bug to do the full thing next year? Who knows!

This rounded off an amazing few weeks of marathon running from our athletes. From Brighton, London, Manchester, Boston and Belfast, there were so many amazing stories and performances to be proud of, well-done team.

Thank you to our support crews, who cheered everyone on along the route.

We are all both inspired and proud of everyone. Enjoy the recovery, you most certainly deserve it!

What an amazing response to our CCFR entries opening. It's so good to see previous participants returning, many of whom have supported us from the start. πŸ™πŸ»

A challenging 10 mile effort, but one that is definitely achievable to our fantastic local running community.

Please ensure that you read the race description and essential kit requirements prior to entering, both of which are available on the link below.

If you have any questions with regard to the course or equipment, don't hesitate to get in touch.

πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ TRIO IMPRESS AT PURPLE LADIES 5K RACE πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Last week (Wednesday 29th April 2026) three East Coast Athletic Club ladies joined over 250 other female runners at the annual Purple Ladies 5k, in Ballymoney.

The event, expertly hosted by Springwell Running Club, offers female runners an opportunity to get out, be active and compete together.

The course starts at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre and takes participants downhill to the town's Riverside Park. After a lap in the scenic park, runners retraced their steps uphill, back to the bustling sports hub.

Albeit a little warm, for some, conditions could have been described as perfect for running and the hilly off road course provided our athletes with a great test.

Jo Harris led our ladies home, completing the 5k in a speedy 20:30, to take 5th overall and an outstanding 1st place in the tough F35 category. Jo's time was almost 4 minutes quicker than her previous outing here. An exceptional effort from our athlete!

Yolande Wilson continued to impress, crossing the line in a brilliant 21:47, for 13th overall and a remarkable 2nd place in the highly competitive F40 category.

Both ladies clearly showing that they've recovered well from Brighton Marathon, only a few weeks ago.

Next home was new member Louise McMullan, who also displayed fantastic pace over the tough route, finishing fast in a time of 30:50. Louise recorded another new personal best time, having already claimed a PB at the Ballymena Belles 5 Mile Road Race the previous week.

WELL DONE to our ladies and to Springwell Running Club for deliverying a fantastic event.

Keep up the great work! πŸ‘πŸ’œ
