"Why pay for a Will when you can write one yourself?"

It's a fair question. Here's the honest answer.

DIY Wills aren't invalid because they're homemade; they're risky because the law around them is more exacting than most people realise. A Will that isn't signed in front of two witnesses simultaneously is invalid. A witness who is also a beneficiary may lose their gift entirely. Assets held jointly or in a pension may not pass under your Will at all, regardless of what it says.

And if someone later challenges your Will: on grounds of capacity, undue influence, or inadequate provision, the difference between a professionally drafted Will and a DIY one could be the difference between your wishes being upheld or overturned.
