How many email threads does it take to instruct counsel on a drafting matter?

For most solicitors, the answer is more than it should be. A request goes in. Documents follow separately. A quote comes back asking for more detail. Progress gets chased. Nobody is quite sure whether the work has been picked up.

We built the Advice & Drafting Portal to fix exactly that, and it's now live and integrated directly into our online booking system.

⚖️ Submit your enquiry and upload all documents in one place, securely, from the outset.

⚖️ Provide full case details and a suggested fee or budget upfront, so we can quote accurately and quickly without the back and forth.

⚖️ Receive a unique enquiry reference for every instruction, so you can track progress at any point without having to chase.

⚖️ Get instant confirmation the moment your instruction reaches the barrister's task list.

The fuller the picture at the start, the faster and more accurately we can respond. Swipe through to see how it works – and access it now through our online booking system at app.chambers365.com

3.6 million adults in England and Wales have an unmet legal need involving a dispute every year, according to the Legal Services Board.

Factor in reduced legal aid funding, the cost of living crisis, and post-pandemic wait times, and it’s clear that access to justice is dwindling – and urgently needs action.

On Tuesday 9th June, The Barrister Group will once again be taking part in the London Legal Walk. Along with over 7,000 other walkers, our team will take on the 10k route around London in support of access to justice in London and the South East.

Funds raised will be used to support free legal advice agencies and to train new specialists, all with the aim of reducing debt, poverty and homelessness, and helping individuals to enforce their rights.

If you’d like to sponsor Team TBG and support the London Legal Support Trust in their valuable work, you can find our fundraising page at: https://londonlegalsupporttrust.enthuse.com/pf/the-barrister-group-2026

Nicky Leighton, TBG’s Professional Standards Officer, has been invited to speak at The Bar Council of England and Wales' upcoming webinar on handling client complaints.

Taking place on 20 May 2026, the session will help chambers navigate the BSB’s changing rules on complaints handling and the collection and reporting of complaints data. It will cover how to adapt policies and processes, as well as ensuring compliance with the new requirements.

Nicky leads on formal complaints from both professional and lay clients, working across The Barrister Group and Barrister Connect. She’s incredibly passionate about using complaints as a source of learning to identify and deliver service improvements, so it’s fantastic to see her returning for her second panel with The Bar Council.

“I cannot recommend Dr Peter Fields highly enough. He is an invaluable, multitalented and multifaceted professional.

He through direct access took on a difficult shareholder/family/company dispute when I had just about lost faith in the legal profession.

He was very responsive at all times and his advice and support in business, finance and mediation was first class throughout . To have Peter on my side gave me strength and confidence to stay the lengthy course.

I am eternally grateful - would definitely consult again and have no hesitation in recommending him to any potential litigant.”

Dr Peter Fields, FCIArb is a civil practitioner specialising in technical and commercial disputes. He advises small and medium-sized companies – along with their directors and shareholders – on matters ranging from contractual and corporate challenges to complex technical issues.

01/05/2026

From 1 May 2026, under the new Renters’ Rights Act, assured shorthold tenancies, Section 21 no-fault evictions and fixed terms are abolished. Every private tenancy in England is now periodic and open-ended – and possession must be justified, prepared and proved.

Harry Angelides, property barrister at The Barrister Group, says:

"This is not merely an abstract legal shift. The private rented sector has long operated on a mixture of contract, custom, and experience. That model has now been replaced by one of statutory control and procedural discipline.

For better or worse, the message is clear: the margin for error has gone."

Harry’s full commentary features in Landlord Today – read here: https://www.landlordtoday.co.uk/breaking-news/2026/04/rra-leaves-no-margin-for-error-says-lawyer/
