A fantastic evening celebrating the official launch of the British Arena in Sunderland and also the launch of the International Defence Esports Games (IDEG) 🎉

Members of the Sweeney Miller Law team were delighted to attend the launch event for this impressive new addition to the city, marking an exciting milestone for Sunderland and the wider North East.

The evening was particularly special for us, having had the privilege of playing a small part in the Arena’s journey. Earlier this year, Sweeney Miller Law advised the company behind the British Esports Federation on the financing of the new British Arena, with the transaction led by our Senior Partner Jessica Fenwick alongside our corporate team.

The multi-use venue has been developed to host esports and gaming events alongside conferences, live entertainment and wider industry engagement, further adding to Sunderland’s growing digital and creative sector.

It was wonderful to see the Arena officially open its doors and looking fantastic lit up for the evening.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing such an ambitious project to life. We’re incredibly proud to have supported the journey and look forward to seeing what comes next.

It was great to be back at Newcastle University for the second time this week, this time alongside BPP Law School, talking to students about careers in law and the different routes into the profession.

One of the key messages from the evening was that careers rarely follow a straight line. There are many different pathways into law, and plenty of opportunities to build a career that reflects your individual strengths and ambitions.

A big thank you to Rishi, Salma, Sohaib and Darcy for taking part, sharing their experiences and offering advice to the students.

We’re always pleased to have the opportunity to meet and support the next generation of legal talent. 👏

We were delighted to once again support the Foundation of Light Gala Awards Dinner, made even more special this year as the charity celebrates its 25th birthday.

A great morning talking all things employment law! ⚖️

On Tuesday, we welcomed clients and contacts to Gosforth Civic Theatre for our latest Employment Law Seminar, led by Paul Lott and Charlotte Garvey from our Employment Law team.

Paul and Charlotte shared practical insights and updates to help employers navigate the ever-changing employment law landscape, with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. It was great to see so many familiar faces, as well as some new ones, and we hope you found the session useful.
