Specialising in HMO's, Residential, Commercial, Office and Block Cleans, Maintenance and Refurbs. I started my cleaning business in 2016 with literally nothing but a car and free cleaning stuff I snapped up on Facebook marketplace. I got 5 companies on and I still work with them all now. I have never seen the need to go huge, I would rather have less clients giving me more time to provide a better
level of service from my staff and more attention to detail from me. It is not all about sales, bagging the biggest company or the revenue for me, this is my company, I have built this from nothing by being decent, fair and good to be around. Before going solo I made a lot of companies a lot of money as my background is sales, but they never cared about clients, didn't care about their staff, dialer systems were repeatedly calling people that died (even when you outcome do not call), it was all about the revenue and the amount of new business coming in. Nearly all the companies I have worked for had huge staff turnovers because they hated working there was no motivation, no happy office, and managers that did nothing yet got the top tier wage. They just barked at you, delegating. They avoided confrontation like the plague, slithered off when something went wrong, avoiding phone calls and clients and staff on occasion just buried their head. Refused to go back to call backs after the invoice was paid (£1 or £100 it is all the same if you pay for a service you should get that service), not paying staff on time (could be the following week), charging for literally everything couldn't even take a binbag to the bins without it costing £20. During the mayhem that was covid we closed down so I thought I may as well learn something rather than doing nothing. So I took a few courses to understand my staff a bit more. I did an accounting course, business enterprise, SEO, social media marketing, building surveying, plumbing, my pal taught me how to fit a full kitchen and a few other areas, I did not do this because I ever want a career in those jobs but so I had a better understanding of what goes in to these jobs and have a little bit more terminology with the lads. So my ex boss had the big office, fleet of cars and vans, petrol cards, staff mobiles the works he had to make £30k a month before he made any profit. He ended up in liquidation for a 220k PAYE and VAT bill. As I said I do the exact opposite. I have an office at home, I drive all staff so I only have one car, insurance, miles and fuel to pay for, I have no trade accounts zero payment plans I pay as I go, I take all the pics so only have one phone to pay for. I will never take on too much work where I lose myself or feel I don't have the time you need from me. Every job is different, every LL has different needs, some like to be involved, some trust my judgment and give me a spend cap, some want a quick job, some want cheap and cheerful, some want high spec. A lot of clients just want a quick lick of paint broken furniture fixing not replacing, re-seals, sanding grout instead of a re-grout and so on. We are happy to do a quick flick and my prices reflect that, we can do it cheap, fast and cheerful or a full on high spec job. You decide, it is your property and your cashflow. I took a huge risk, as I said I started with nothing, but as bad as my last employment was I learnt a lot about the industry and running a business, my boss was not hands on, so I was doing hiring, firing, sales, invoicing, quotes, accounts (xero), adding payments on system from bank statements, chasing client payment, even learnt how to do his VAT return on Youtube, as his accountant left in the end. So I am grateful in some ways, i am so pro-active i left with it being a positive which it was. I knew I could set up a company to run smoother, build better relationships with clients, less overheads, loyal staff without losing my moral compass or spending a load of money and having big outlay. So was a bit of a personal challenge for me, but I did it. I now run my business doing the exact opposite of what my previous company did, and it works, hence 8 years with same clients which in this industry is hard and I am very proud of that. Cleaners and maintenance staff come and go constantly which is one of the things I wanted to change, and I have. However I have made mistakes, built relationships, have staff I trust, so now and feel ready to take on a few more clients and bring some new faces on board.
