At Town & Country Law Stamford, Our job is to cut through all the opinions and hearsay, and present the facts clearly, so that you can make informed decisions.

For instance, if you have children under the age of 18, and both you and your partner die, what would happen to them?

Making a will lets you decide who you want to care for your children should you both pass away. If you both die without a will, a Judge may decide for you. Don't leave it until it's too late, call Town & Country Law Stamford on 01780 758506 and let us help protect your family, should the unforeseen ever happen.

Jargon buster - LPA
An LPA or lasting power of attorney is a legal document that lets you appoint a friend or relative to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf should you be unable to. The people you appoint to manage your affairs are called the attorneys.

Once you have a lasting power of attorney in place you can have peace of mind that there is someone you trust to look after your affairs if you become unable to do so yourself during your lifetime. This may occur, for example, because of illness, old age, or in the unfortunate event of an accident.

If you need help ensuring your assets and loved ones are protected, call our friendly team on 01780 758506 or drop into our Stamford office at Orion House, 14 Barn Hill Stamford.

Although a spot of home DIY can be satisfying and save you a bit of dosh into the bargain, DIY will writing can be far less successful.

People often believe writing their wishes down on a scrappy piece of paper is enough for them to be legally binding. Put simply, it is not.

If your instructions are not 100% clear, it could lead to your wishes not being followed properly or your will being ruled invalid.

To avoid making a DIY will blunder, let Town & Country Law Stamford help you protect the things most important to you. It’s quick, easy, and won't break the bank. Don’t leave it to chance, call the professionals on 01780 758506.

When making a will, most people automatically think about what they want to happen to their home, valuables, and investments.

But spare a thought for your treasured pets. After all, they’re a big part of your family, and according to UK law, pets are considered your personal possessions.

So what should you do to provide for Dave the Goldfish or Davina the Great Dane when making a will?

First of all, you should establish whether anyone you know would be willing to look after your favourite feline or doted-on doggie should you pass away. If so, you can create a gift in your will, leaving your pet to that particular trusted person.

You can also leave your chosen beneficiary a cash gift to cover the cost of caring for your pet. This can be viewed as a kind of maintenance payment to cover costs such as vet bills and insurance.

If you need a helping hand to prepare your will, give our friendly team a call on 01780 758506 or drop into our office in Orion House on Barn Hill in Stamford. You can also find us at stamford.townandcountrylaw.legal

Are you one of the 42% of UK over-55s who don’t have a Will?

Not only can it feel scary getting your Will sorted, but all the legal jargon surrounding it can be really daunting! Put simply, as well as naming your 'beneficiaries' (the people who benefit from your will), a Will appoints 'executors' – the people who look after the financial process after your death (who 'execute' your will according to your wishes).

At T&C Law Stamford, our friendly staff will guide you through the Will writing process in a simple reassuring way, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to protecting your assets and your loved ones.

We’ve been so busy over the last few months! It’s great to be back visiting clients' homes and setting up our trusty T&C stand in local supermarkets and community centres.

We’re always surprised to hear people say that they don’t need a Will as they don’t have children or own a home, but it’s important to remember that if you don’t leave behind a Will, your assets will be settled according to the law of intestacy and not according to you or your family’s wishes. Getting a Will is not as daunting or expensive as you think but it will give you peace of mind.

If you want to find out more about our Will writing service, call our friendly Stamford team on 01780 758506 or pop in and see us at our Barn Hill office - here's our lovely view :)
