🌳 Autumn Ahead at King’s Barton Estate

This week, our team carried out a full tree and planting survey across the impressive King’s Barton Estate, assessing the condition of trees, shrubs and planted areas following another challenging summer.

With the prolonged dry conditions, combined with the often difficult soil conditions found across new-build developments, establishing and maintaining healthy landscaping can be challenging.

Rather than simply replacing failed planting, we’re looking at the bigger picture — identifying where losses have occurred, assessing likely causes and planning the most appropriate replacements.

🍂 Our survey will now form the basis of a structured Autumn Re-Planting Schedule, helping us prioritise areas, select suitable planting and give new trees and shrubs the best possible chance to establish.

🌿 The Great British Weather... Every Grounds Team's Biggest Challenge! 🌦️

These two photographs were taken just 5 weeks apart!

The first shows healthy, green grass after favourable growing conditions. The second highlights the impact of the recent prolonged dry weather we've experienced across much of the UK.

Whilst regular mowing and maintenance are essential, no landscaping contractor can control the weather. Extended periods without rainfall place significant stress on newly established lawns, trees and shrubs, particularly on newer developments where root systems are still developing.

This is where communities can make a real difference.

💧 A few buckets of water from residents can help young trees establish stronger roots.
🌳 Watering newly planted shrubs during dry spells can prevent unnecessary losses.
🤝 When residents, managing agents and contractors work together, we create healthier, greener places for everyone to enjoy.

Property Solutions Beyond Maintenance.

Not every property issue can be solved with routine maintenance.

This week our team attended a site to carry out hopper clearing, but what we found highlighted a much bigger issue.

Rather than simply completing the scheduled task and leaving, we spent time speaking with residents to understand the problems they have been experiencing. Water leaks, damp and mould were recurring concerns across multiple apartments, so we carried out a wider inspection of the building's rainwater system.

Our findings showed that whilst the hoppers themselves were relatively clear, the downpipes appeared to be heavily restricted, preventing rainwater from draining efficiently. This is exactly why looking beyond the original work instruction is so important.

Many newer developments can experience ongoing issues with damp, mould and water ingress. Whilst these symptoms often appear inside the property, the root cause can sometimes lie outside in the building's drainage systems, rainwater goods or maintenance strategy.

At Cherry Estates, we believe in finding the cause, not just treating the symptom.

By listening to residents, carrying out practical inspections and proposing proactive solutions, we help property managers make informed decisions that can reduce future maintenance costs and improve residents' living environments.

🌿 Protecting Our Countryside, Livestock & Communities 🌿

Today our team removed a significant amount of Ragwort before it had the opportunity to fully seed and spread.

Although its bright yellow flowers can look attractive, Common Ragwort is highly toxic to horses, cattle and other grazing livestock.

The danger doesn't end once it's cut either – when Ragwort wilts or dries in hay, it often becomes even more appealing to animals while remaining poisonous. Ingesting it can cause severe, irreversible liver damage, and in many cases can be fatal.

By removing these plants before they disperse thousands of seeds, we're helping to:
✅ Protect nearby farmland and grazing animals.
✅ Prevent further spread across neighbouring land.
✅ Support responsible environmental management.
✅ Reduce future maintenance requirements.

Early intervention makes all the difference. A single Ragwort plant can produce tens of thousands of seeds, many of which are carried by the wind and can remain viable in the soil for years.

A great effort by the team today, helping to protect both the local environment and our farming community. 🌱
