This is illegal currently in the UK outwith of the trial areas, but even if -scooters were approved for use as micro-mobility vehicles, this type of manoeuvre would not be seen as safe at any time.

No new laws for e-scooters were mentioned in yesterday's King's Speech, meaning legislation would be delayed.

The government has promised to extend existing trials till May 2026.

Recorded data from e-scooters being ridden in 2 European cities and also in Tel Aviv showed that 93% of the time e-scooters are ridden on roads and cycle lanes.

DfT has announced plans to create a new Low-Speed Zero Emission Vehicle (LZEV) category, which has the aim of encouraging the growth and adoption of light electric vehicles while maintaining safety standards. E-scooters will be the first vehicles to be included in their own sub-category.
