💡 Debt Recovery – Collecting evidence before instructing a solicitor 💷
By knowing which documents and information might be useful to a solicitor before attending the initial enquiry meeting will be beneficial in helping your instructed solicitor to understand your claim. Prior to the meeting it is essential to know:
❓Who you intend to bring the claim against; is this an individual or a company and do you have their contact details?
❓Do you have a written contract evidencing the debt? If so, your instructed solicitor will need to see this.
❓Have any invoices been issued? If so, your instructed solicitor will need to see these.
❓Have any payments been made or received to the other party, and can these be evidenced by way of bank statements? Again, these would be useful in assisting your instructed solicitor.
❓Has there been any relevant correspondence between you and the other party?
The above list is not exhaustive, but it is important to remember the more evidence you have to support your claim the more chance you have in being successful in your claim. Therefore, you should collate as much relevant information as possible to bring to any initial enquiry meeting.
