September's newsletter is out now 🍂

Ricky Gervais is getting married, and he's said openly it's to avoid a seven-figure inheritance tax bill. 💍

After 44 years together, the reason he's finally tying the knot is the spousal exemption. Without marriage, couples have no automatic right to inherit, no right to remain in a shared home, and no IHT protection, no matter how long they have been together.

3.5 million couples in England and Wales are in the same position.

Andy Burnham has taken office as Prime Minister with some pointed remarks about inheritance tax. IHT receipts are rising. And the courts have delivered a £216,000 costs order against a TV psychic, a jailed nephew, and a High Court battle over a promise made across a kitchen table.
