We’re extremely pleased to share that Wake Smith has achieved double-digit growth in fee income for the first time, a 17% increase from last year.

Over the last 12 months, we have continued to invest heavily in our people, technology, processes and business development, as well as building our busy Private Client, Corporate, Residential Conveyancing and Commercial Property teams.

These investments have supported another exciting year for the firm, including achieving Gold Investors in People accreditation for the first time, welcoming a host of new clients, advising on some of the most high-profile commercial transactions in South Yorkshire, and receiving recognition through regional award wins and shortlistings.

Joint-Managing Directors Elizabeth Shaw and Paul Gibbon commented:

“This positive change, coupled with our financial results, really highlights what can happen when we work together with a shared sense of purpose. Our people and culture are incredibly important to who we are, what we have achieved and what makes Wake Smith a great place to work. They are the drivers of our success. We will keep the momentum going and see what more we can accomplish in the year ahead.”

The recent storyline involving Nigel Bates in EastEnders has struck a deep chord with viewers.

For Stephanie Chung, director in our Wills, Trust & Probate team, it feels incredibly personal.

Storylines like Nigel’s are a gentle but firm reminder that preparing for the future is actually a profound act of care.

By acting early, we ensure that:
- Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) place your future in the hands of those you trust most.

- Wills provide clarity, protecting your family from the heartache of legal disputes.

- Advance Decisions ensure your medical and care preferences are honoured, even when you can’t voice them.

- Open Conversations replace future uncertainty and guilt with peace of mind.

We’re so proud to share that Wake Smith has raised £7,872 for our 2025–26 Charity of the Year, Support Dogs

It’s been fantastic to support a charity doing such important work for people affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disabilities.

From fundraising events and bake sales to quizzes and office visits from some very special four-legged friends, it’s been wonderful to see colleagues, friends, family and clients all getting involved.

Supporting charities and organisations making a real difference in our communities remains incredibly important to us, and we’re delighted to have contributed towards the amazing work Support Dogs continues to do.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise this fantastic total 💙

Our Lexcel accreditation has been renewed for the 13th year running, recognising high standards across the firm, from client care and case management to risk management, leadership and service delivery.

New trade union right of access – what does it mean for employers?

From October 2026, changes to employment law will give trade unions greater rights to access workplaces. This is something employers should be aware of and start preparing for now.

These changes could affect how businesses manage employee relations, site access and day-to-day processes.

In our latest article, we explain what the new rules mean in practice, who they apply to, and what steps you may want to consider.

Are you prepared for Inheritance Tax changes?

From April 2026, new rules mean there’s now a £2.5m cap on 100% inheritance tax relief for agricultural and business assets. This could have a real impact on farm and estate succession plans.

If you’re unsure what this means for you or your family, now is a good time to start thinking ahead.

We’ve put together a simple, practical guide to help explain the changes and what you may need to consider.
