Almost as soon as Graves Park opened JG Graves realised it would need a cafe and donated a further £2500 (around £200,00 today) to have one built.

tt was constructed as a pavilion and tearoom by Reeves Charlesworth Ltd to the designs of city architect W.G. Davies and opened to the public in 1927.

The cafe became part of the assets of the Graves Park Charity under the terms of The Open Spaces Act 1906, which required the local authority to maintain the building in the condition it was when donated. So this being a new build should have been kept pristine, but lack of maintenance almost led to the building being domolished.. It was only saved because of a public outcry.

The charity really needs trustees who will stick up for the interests of the charity as required by the Charities Act..
