Have you stopped trusting yourself, doubting your own memory and judgement or questioning those everyday things you do.

Always being told 'no that’s not right', 'no that didn’t happen', stories and events being rewritten the narrative changing so that outcomes are portrayed as overreactions rather than a basic concern, being told your too sensitive or imagining things.

This a form of control ‘Gas Lighting’; often used to describe a pattern where someone repeatedly denies events, changes account of what happened, contradicts things previously said, minimizes concerns, or attempts to make another person appear unreasonable for raising legitimate issues.

It is important where possible to keep copies of relevant records, communicate calmly, stick to factual information and avoid responding emotionally. Collect screenshots, messages, emails where it is lawful and appropriate to do so. Avoid speculating about another person’s motives.

Courts and decision makers may take in to consideration a range of material, records can be useful.

Can a child be forced to have contact with another parent. 🧑🏼‍🧑‍🧒

The child’s welfare is paramount. Contact is not simply about a parent’s right to see their child, they cannot simply insist that a child must spend time with them regardless of the circumstances.

If a child is resisting contact, the reasons should be carefully considered, including their wishes and feelings, their age and understanding, and any safeguarding concerns.

Important ‘contact’ is not a one size fits all. Depending on the circumstances, arrangements can range from direct time with a parent to supported or supervised contact, indirect contact or maybe no contact at all.

Every case is different, and the focus should always be what is the best interests of the child.

Where parents cannot agree arrangements, the court can make a Child Arrangements order.

'If you have nothing to hide, why won't you let me see your phone?'

Comments like this can often be dismissed, but they can be a sign of digital abuse.

As we become a world where technology is at the forefront, digital abuse is now rising. Others are using technology to control, monitor and intimidate.

This can be in the form of demanding passwords, tracking someone's location, checking your phone without permission, monitoring your social media, using messages to constantly maintain control.

Healthy relationships are built on trust, not control or surveillance.

Recognising these signs are an important step to understanding coercive and controlling behaviour and knowing when to seek support.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse or need advice about your legal options, Loose Legal Ltd have a family team to support, advise and guide you on the protections that are available.

Thinking about a Prenup?

A prenuptial agreement (prenup) is a way for couples to discuss and record how they would like their finances and assets to be dealt with if their marriage were ever to end.

In England and Wales, prenups are not automatically legally binding, but courts are increasingly likely to uphold them if they have been entered into freely, both parties have received independent legal advice, there was full financial disclosure, and the agreement is fair in the circumstances.

A prenup can help:
📍Protect assets acquired before the marriage.
📍Safeguard family businesses or inherited wealth.
📍Provide greater financial certainty.
📍Encourage open and honest conversations about finances before marriage.

Many couples see a prenup as sensible financial planning, much like making a will or taking out insurance.

Every couple’s circumstances are different, so it is important to seek independent legal advice.
