Cricket, community and a few familiar faces. 🏏

What a fantastic day at Hadleigh and Thundersley CC for their Ex-England Legends Day!
Members of the BTMK team were delighted to join the crowds at John Burrows for an afternoon that brought together brilliant cricket, local businesses, families and the wider community, all while celebrating an incredible 80 years of Hadleigh & Thundersley CC.

With the PCA England Legends taking on the Hadleigh & Thundersley XI, more than 450 people joining the marquee and thousands enjoying the atmosphere around the ground, it was wonderful to see the club absolutely buzzing.

Community sport has a brilliant way of bringing people together, and days like this are a perfect example of why we're so proud to support events and organisations across our local area.

A huge congratulations to everyone at Hadleigh & Thundersley Cricket Club, particularly the volunteers and members who put so much work in behind the scenes to make the day happen.

Here's to 80 years of H&T CC, and plenty more to come. ❤️🖤🏏

Think someone has copied your work? Proving infringement may only be half the battle.

A recent High Court copyright dispute between SHEIN and Temu has provided an important reminder for businesses about the importance of establishing exactly who owns the content they use.

SHEIN alleged that photographs from its product listings had appeared on Temu's UK marketplace without permission. However, the infringement claims were ultimately rejected, with questions around copyright ownership and the chain of title forming an important part of the case.

For businesses, there's a valuable lesson here.

Photographs, graphics and other creative assets may be produced by employees, freelancers, agencies or suppliers. Simply commissioning or using that content doesn't necessarily mean you have all the rights required to enforce its copyright.

Keeping clear records of who created a work, the circumstances in which it was created and any written assignments or transfers of copyright can therefore be crucial if those rights ever need to be enforced.

Last week, our Managing Director Nitin Khandhia visited Little Havens in his role as a Trustee of Havens Hospices, spending the day with the team who care for children with complex and incurable conditions, and the families alongside them.

Alongside witnessing the personal care and respite being provided, a highlight of the visit was the Disney Moana-inspired sensory garden, created in partnership with The Walt Disney Company and The Green Genie Brothers.
It's a beautiful, fully accessible space where children and their families can play, explore and make precious memories together, and a great example of what happens when organisations come together for their community.

Reflecting on the visit, Nitin said:
"It is one thing to read about the work of the Hospice in board and trustee papers, but quite another to see it first-hand at such close proximity. What will stay with me the most is the dedication and love shown by everyone I met, often in the most difficult of circumstances. I left with an even greater appreciation of everything the team does and our responsibility as Trustees."

BTMK has supported Havens Hospices for many years, and days like this remind us why. Thank you to everyone at Little Havens for the warm welcome.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What happens if one of my beneficiaries dies before I do?

It's common for people to make a Will and assume it never needs updating. However, life can change considerably over the years, and your Will should be reviewed whenever there is a significant change in your personal circumstances.

If a beneficiary named in your Will dies before you, what happens to the gift they were due to receive will depend on how your Will has been drafted and your relationship to that person. In some cases, the gift may pass to their children, while in others it could become part of the residue of your estate or be distributed in accordance with the terms of your Will.

By reviewing your Will regularly, particularly following births, deaths, marriages, divorces or major financial changes, you can help ensure your estate is distributed in line with your current wishes and reduce the likelihood of uncertainty or disputes for your loved ones.
