WARNING – LAND TRANSACTION TAX RATES CHANGE IN WALES FROM 1ST APRIL 2021

There is currently a Land Transaction Tax (LTT) holiday in place for properties worth less than £250,000.00. This applies if you are purchasing your first residential property or if you are swapping your main residence for another main residence. There are different rates payable for second home purchases.

The holiday is due to end on the 31st March 2021. From the 1st April 2021 Land Transaction Tax will then be payable for all properties worth over £180,000.00. This could add a significant amount to the Land Transaction Tax payable.

There are different Land Transaction Tax (LTT) rates and bands for different types of property. Welsh Ministers set the rates and bands for LTT. They’re approved by the Welsh Parliament.
