Saltram is still a largely undiscovered treasure, and the result of centuries of sophistication and extravagance just waiting for you to discover! The perfect family day out: close to Plymouth and yet in a world of its own. Home to the Parker family for nearly 300 years, the house with its original contents provides a fascinating insight into country-es

tate life throughout the centuries. Fine Robert Adam interiors and beautiful collections bring the 'age of elegance' to life at Saltram. Learn about some of the fascinating characters and family stories, including the correspondence between Frances, the first Countess, and Jane Austen. Surrounding the house is a beautiful 20+ acre garden, in which there are many plants of interest year round as well as historic statuary, follies and an orangery. The garden has excellent accessibility all year round and the many pathways that weave through the myriad of plants, from stunning large trees to herbaceous borders, provide sights and smells to capture the imagination of all ages.

Behind the scenes at the National Trust, Saltram this Bank Holiday weekend. 🦆

The first visitors of the day are always our favourites. They can be a bit shy in the shop sometimes, when they're not sure exactly what they're looking for.

Our helpful staff and volunteers are always on hand to guide them and this May Half term, our Pokémon stock has got everyone quacking.

Check out our stories for some of the fun things you can find inside.

There's also Manga Drawing workshops in the Stables courtyard for the next 3 days for budding young artists.

For generations, the identity of an enslaved boy known only as 'Jersey' in a portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds’ was lost to history.

Now, new research has uncovered his name - along with evidence that tells us more about a life story once hidden from view.

Thanks to a research collaboration between the National Trust and Royal Museums Greenwich, as well as technical analysis in collaboration with the National Gallery, London we've been able to shine new light on Boston Jersey (or should that be George Walker?).

Find out more about this enigmatic boy in 'Jersey's Story', running from Saturday 23 May to 1 November. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/devon/saltram/events/f983e9da-bc64-4141-941a-933f7fe8f48c
