Why should I appoint a guardian for my children in my Will and Testament? is a question I am often asked. Several reasons:

1. If you want to be sure that someone you trust will look after your children if you die, you need to decide who that should be by appointing a guardian in your will.

2. If you don’t appoint a guardian, the courts will decide who will look after your children in the event of your death. It is not guaranteed that this will be the person/people you would have chosen, so it is far better to make that decision yourself.

3. Your children could also be taken into care temporarily if you die and you have not appointed a guardian.

If you don't want this to be what happens to you, call me on 07366 768786.

"I don’t have a lot of money and only got my house. - not much to plan really"

This is something I hear and being brutally honest is NOT TRUE, putting thing in place is not just for the rich! Don't leave things to chance. Let's have a chat.

In a recent post I talked about why you should appoint guardians for your children.

Now, let me ask you: Do you have a blended family? Estate planning is crucial for blended families to ensure that all family members are taken care of and that assets are distributed according to your wishes. It also insures that the children are taken care of when it comes to their inheritance.

Yes it is essential that you communicate openly with your family to ensure transparency and prevent misunderstandings, but you will need to involve a professional who is able to provide clarity and address any concerns, they will also guide you on what is the right path for you to take. All situations are different and it is important that you engage with an estate planning professional to help you navigate things such as wills, trusts insurance and any life changes.

If you would like to start exploring this for your family please get in touch I would be delighted to help.

I don’t normally talk about business matters on Facebook as I usually find most of the views are from friends and family.

But then I thought again a lot of my friends and family are business owners so let me ask you a question:

Did you know that you can have a LPA for your business?

Imagine this: you are at work, working hard perhaps a small support team around you and you are suddenly, unable to work. What happens? who pays the invoices and the wages? who communicates with your suppliers and clients? how long are you out for? does your SM need shutting down?

So many questions! if you have all the answers but no one has designated authority to carry out YOUR wishes for YOUR business, everything you have worked for can suddenly grind to a halt and not in a good way.

Lets chat and make sure you are covered in EVERY area of your life not just at home.

This might make you uncomfortable but let me ask you a question.

Do you ever worry when thinking about your future, that your children's spouses could benefit from having some of your assets when that may not be in line with your wishes? If you can answer yes to this question it is understandable, we very often do not like to think of worst case scenarios, but we have to.

Protecting assets from children's spouses is a crucial consideration in financial planning, especially for blended families.

There are several strategies that you could consider. Why not drop me a line and let me help you with your estate planning? All consultations are free and could save you a lot of heartache in the long run.
