A thrilling and competitive Premier League season is all set for an incredibly tight finish , with Saturday's penultimate round of fixtures seeing five teams fighting for the two guaranteed promotion places to be playing Lowland League East football next season. There MAY be 3 places - but we will not know for sure until after the League 2 play-off between Brora and Edinburgh City next week.
The top 5 going into Saturday reads :
Hill of Beath 64 points +51 goal difference
Camelon 61 + 38
MUSSELBURGH 60 +31
SWIFTS 59 +41
Dunipace 59 +36
Looking back to the corresponding fixture , when Swifts won at Musselburgh by a single Murray Binnie goal to nil in November - at the start of play that day, the same five teams were the top 5 - and with the same 5 point gap from 1st to 5th as we have now!
Two games to play and various permutations possible - what a finish to a great season of EoS Premier football.
Both Swifts and Musselburgh have had similar mixed fortunes of late , gaining 7 and 8 points respectively from their last 5 League matches , with 1 defeat apiece - Swifts at Dunipace and Burgh at Newtongrange.
Just to add to the fun , this week and next see clashes amongst the top 5 :
2 May
Dunipace v Whitburn
Hill of Beath v Camelon
Swifts v Musselburgh
9 May
Camelon v St Andrews
Dundonald v Dunipace
Musselburgh v Hill of Beath
Bo'ness Ath v Swifts
Have fun doing the arithmetic on that lot ......
The match officials on Saturday are referee Calum Foreman , assisted by Ross Alexander and Ivan Nsimbi...................................
A big crowd is needed and expected at the Riverside on Saturday - St Johnstone finish their season on Friday so come along for your football fix folks . Win , lose or draw, the Swifts team and management deserve the appreciation of the support for their entertaining football throughout the season .
This will of course be the last home game with Robbie, Bally , Nathan and Amber in the home dugout - another reason to come along and show your support .
Musselburgh will bring a good following too - we are aware of at least one fully-booked supporters' bus making the trip.
**As ever - please arrive early , and please park responsibly and considerately **
