MATCH PREVIEW

Jeanfield Swifts v Musselburgh Athletic
East of Scotland Premier Division
Saturday 2 May
Riverside Stadium
KO 2.30 pm
£10/£5
Lounge open pre-match

A thrilling and competitive Premier League season is all set for an incredibly tight finish , with Saturday's penultimate round of fixtures seeing five teams fighting for the two guaranteed promotion places to be playing Lowland League East football next season. There MAY be 3 places - but we will not know for sure until after the League 2 play-off between Brora and Edinburgh City next week.

The top 5 going into Saturday reads :

Hill of Beath 64 points +51 goal difference
Camelon 61 + 38
MUSSELBURGH 60 +31
SWIFTS 59 +41
Dunipace 59 +36

Looking back to the corresponding fixture , when Swifts won at Musselburgh by a single Murray Binnie goal to nil in November - at the start of play that day, the same five teams were the top 5 - and with the same 5 point gap from 1st to 5th as we have now!

Two games to play and various permutations possible - what a finish to a great season of EoS Premier football.

Both Swifts and Musselburgh have had similar mixed fortunes of late , gaining 7 and 8 points respectively from their last 5 League matches , with 1 defeat apiece - Swifts at Dunipace and Burgh at Newtongrange.

Just to add to the fun , this week and next see clashes amongst the top 5 :

2 May

Dunipace v Whitburn
Hill of Beath v Camelon
Swifts v Musselburgh

9 May

Camelon v St Andrews
Dundonald v Dunipace
Musselburgh v Hill of Beath
Bo'ness Ath v Swifts

Have fun doing the arithmetic on that lot ......

The match officials on Saturday are referee Calum Foreman , assisted by Ross Alexander and Ivan Nsimbi...................................

A big crowd is needed and expected at the Riverside on Saturday - St Johnstone finish their season on Friday so come along for your football fix folks . Win , lose or draw, the Swifts team and management deserve the appreciation of the support for their entertaining football throughout the season .
This will of course be the last home game with Robbie, Bally , Nathan and Amber in the home dugout - another reason to come along and show your support .

Musselburgh will bring a good following too - we are aware of at least one fully-booked supporters' bus making the trip.

**As ever - please arrive early , and please park responsibly and considerately **

MATCH PREVIEW

Newtongrange Star v Swifts

Saturday 17 January

New Victoria Park
KO 2.30pm
...............

After two blank Saturdays due to frozen pitches, we head down the A7 tomorrow to face Newtongrange for the second time this season.

The first meeting was back in September, and resulted in a resounding 6-1 home win.
Swifts took a 2 goal lead in the first half, a 3rd straight from the restart set them on their way.
Scorers that day were Matthew Culllerton 2, Liam Strong 2, Archie Campbell and Kyle Green.

That made it 8 wins in the first 9 league games of the season.

With 18 games now played, Swifts sit 3rd on 39 points :

1 Hill of Beath. 45
2 Musselburgh 42
3 Swifts. 39
4 Dunipace. 39
5 Camelon 36

14 Newtongrange 14

Camelon have only played 15 due to involvements in numerous Cups - and indeed play a Scottish Cup tie at home to Elgin tomorrow.

Looking at the last 5 league games , Swifts have taken 7 points from 2 wins and a draw whilst Star have won 3 and lost 2.

Three points need to come back up the road to keep in touch with the top teams; Musselburgh are at Dunbar tomorrow, whilst Dunipace and Hill of Beath are at home to Sauchie and St Andrews respectively.

No bus tomorrow, allow plenty of time if driving!
