This is what a lovely former client said about the benefits of making lasting powers of attorney

"Michelle did an LPOA some years ago for me and my father. The day we actually needed it was probably more than 10 years later. It has been so useful when he became too unwell to manage his own affairs. It was so simple to put it into action and I'm able to make sure my Dad has everything he needs and all his bills covered. Thank you Michelle xx"

Have you heard of a lasting power of attorney?
You may think your partner or close family members can make decisions for you if you’re not able to – but this is not the case. If they had to pay your bills or make a choice about your care, they would need legal authority to do so. A lasting power of attorney lets people you trust quickly and easily step in when you need it most.

Even if you think your situation is straightforward, it is always worth considering making a Will.
I am a member of Lifetime Lawyers. You can find my contact details on their website or on my page.

New research shows two out of five younger adults ‘don’t see the point’ of making a will. Without a will in place, you can’t control who your estate (things like property, belongings, savings, investments) is distributed to.

The distribution is decided by a set of rules called intestacy. This gives priority to certain members of your family, but will not take into account friends or charities.

It also means that social services or the courts can step in to decide what happens to your children. Our research shows 70% of UK parents have no legal guardian in place to care for their children in the event of their deaths. It’s essential that families consider the risks of not having a will in place.

Dying without a will can cause your loved ones distress, and could even result in costly legal bills if there is any confusion or disagreement after you die.

We’d always recommend speaking with a professional, such as an Accredited Lifetime Lawyer, who will be able to advise on your unique situation and help you lay out your wishes.
