To the Health Secretary, we say 3.3% is not enough.

Our lead committee of NHS staff came together to make a clear call to government: fund the talks.

Only proper funding can deliver the improvements we need for the NHS pay structure.

Yesterday, the UNISON South East Regional LGBT+ Group proudly took part in Worthing Pride, marching in the parade to celebrate and champion our LGBT+ members, workers, and communities.

We also hosted a stall in the park, where we had some fantastic conversations with attendees about our union, the work we do to promote equality, and how we’re supporting LGBT+ workers both in and outside the workplace.

Events like Pride are an important opportunity to stand alongside our communities, demonstrate our commitment to inclusion, and show that UNISON will always support equality, dignity, and respect for everyone.

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride!

At Unison SECAmb Branch, we are proud to have sponsored this year’s Pride Ambulance, showing our commitment to supporting our LGBT+ communities. Equality and diversity is central in all we do as a member led union. Happy Pride Month to all!

This week, we’ve unveiled our brand-new Pride ambulance as part of Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Made possible thanks to generous sponsorship from SECAmb trade unions - Unison and GMB, this specially designed vehicle reflects our commitment to inclusive patient care and celebrating diversity across our teams and the communities we serve. 💛

You’ll see it out and about at Pride events this summer before it goes fully operational in September 2026.

Huge thanks to UNISON, GMB Union and Jellyfish Design for making it happen 👏

February marks LGBT+ History Month. At SECAmb UNISON Branch, the rights of our LGBT+ members is close to heart.

2026 marks just 36 years since the World Health Organization (WHO) finally remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).

For much of the 20th century homosexuality was regarded as wrong, unnatural or sinful. The psychiatric classification was based on stigma and what was regarded as the social norm, not on science. This had a terrible impact. Conversion ‘therapy’, including drugs and electric shock treatment, was used to try to change people’s sexual orientation.

LGBT+ people continue to face discrimination and stigma. In more than 60 countries homosexuality is still banned, and in some countries same-sex relations can be punished with the death penalty.

Last year, in the UK, there were 22,511 recorded hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity recorded by police in the UK. That’s approximately one hate crime towards LGBT+ people reported to the police every 23 minutes. These are only the reported crimes, many go unreported.

Although we have made much improvements, there is still work to be done. SECAmb UNISON Branch continue to advocate and stand by our LGBT+ members both at local and national level.

Remember you have your LGBT+ Officers, Tyler Cook covering East and Declan O’Leary in West for support alongside your local reps and other members of the committee.
