Merry Christmas from the Poppleston Allen family to yours. 🎄🎁
This festive season, we are delighted to share something a little special. Our apprentice, Freya Ricketts, has written a Christmas poem that spreads seasonal cheer and cleverly unwraps the licensing objectives along the way 📜
There once was a pub with a sign on the door:
“Drink merry, drink wisely, but please know the law!”
For booze may be brilliant, but rules must deploy,
To keep all the fun from descending to “oi!”
Preventing crime and disorder, they say,
Means no bar-room brawls or chairs thrown in play.
So drinkers stay civil, no swinging of fists—
Save boxing for telly, not lager-fuelled twists.
Public safety steps in next with a nod:
“No climbing the bar thinking you’re some kind of god.”
No dancing on tables, no dares gone too far,
You’re not immortal just ‘cause you’ve had four at the bar.
Preventing public nuisance is simple, it seems:
Don’t sing football chants at three in the a.m.
Keep noise to a whisper, no shouting “LAST ROUND!”
While Mrs. Next Door’s in her pyjamas and frowns.
Protecting the children is last but it’s key:
No selling young Timmy a pint or a G&T.
No kids in the corner inhaling the gin—
Stick to crisps, cola, and a juice with a grin.
So drink with good humour, respect and some sense,
These objectives exist as our licence defence.
Follow the rules, and you’ll soon come to see—
Safe drinking is better (and cheaper legally).
