From October 2026, employers could be held liable for harassment of employees by customers, clients and other third parties if they fail to take all reasonable steps to prevent it.

For many businesses, the legal challenge will not be identifying inappropriate behaviour. It will be knowing what to do when the person responsible is a valued customer or client.

Our latest article explores what this trend means for businesses and the practical steps employers can take to prepare.

Employment Tribunal Time Limits Set to Double

From October 2026, most employment tribunal time limits will increase from three months to six months. The Government has also moved to close a significant loophole by extending the time limit for breach of contract claims in the Employment Tribunal to six months, bringing them into line with most other employment claims.

For employers, this means disputes may remain "live" for longer, increasing the importance of effective record keeping, contract management and exit processes.
