Lovely day for another litter pick down by Golden Mile View. Lottie is sporting a new harness as she gradually ripped through the old one. Went for orange this time - to stay on brand! Also upgraded her Slate Legal badges as she’d scratched the previous one on brambles. We filled 3 bags with all sorts of the usual filth: tin cans, plastic bottles, rubber, random fabrics, multiple sanitary pads, sweet wrappers, wires & broken glass.

Since our last litter pick I note that Welsh Water and another business are being sued in the High Court for polluting the rivers Wye, Lugg and Usk…

Litter-picking in the rain earlier today at Golden Mile View

Pretty miserable weather conditions for Slate Legal’s first litter pick of 2026 down by Golden Mile View - but it didn’t stop Lottie grinning! We spent just over 2 hours & filled 3 bags with all sorts of filth: tin cans, plastic, rubber, random fabrics, multiple sanitary pads, wires & broken glass. Also left lots of jagged metal in a pile (on the right of the photo) - it was too heavy to carry (along with the heavy 3 bags) to place next to the nearest accessible bin in the Golden Mile view estate - hopefully the Council might remove it one day, otherwise we will next time we’re back there (before the Council closed the bridge we were able to put rubbish in the bin just the other side of the bridge).

Our litter-picking experience was enhanced this time due to a cost-effective litter-picking device from the well -stocked local What! store - enabling us to litter pick whilst minimising the risk of infection from the atrocious filth. It does make you wonder what exactly Natural Resources Wales &/or Welsh Water (whoever is responsible) are actually doing to keep our Welsh rivers clean (clue - not a lot, from the looks of it).
