I cannot stress how important an LPA can be. Hopefully you don't need it, but if you ever do then it can save you money and heartbreak.
Lasting Power of Attorney!
On so many occasions setting up Lasting Power of Attorney is even more important than a Will.
Below is a list of things that you can't access on behalf of someone else if they have lost capacity, and yes even if you are married.
-Bank accounts (single AND joint)
-Property (single AND joint)
-Mortgages (single AND joint)
-Car insurance
-Credit cards
-Paying Council Tax
-Claiming benefits
-Businesses (payroll, dividends etc)
-Gas and electric
The list goes on.... and this is only for property and financial side, health and welfare has a whole list of its own!
Life throws curveballs. A LPA ensures someone you trust can make important decisions on your behalf if you're unable to.
