Two firsts for our team this week:

1. We had our first damages assessment following reform of the Law in relation to calculation of damages; we successfully secured an award that was nearly 6-times what was being offered by the Defendant prior to proceedings - well done Shaida, what a great result!

2. For the first time, our Head of Litigation, Nik was granted rights of audience to appear in an Appeal, and successfully argued a technical point on costs recovery, which will be of significant benefit to many of our clients - well done!!

In addition to celebrating recent results, we as a firm also want to ask you to join us in marking an important moment for the firm and also for one of our team.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently made our first Associate appointment and therefore it is with great pleasure that we congratulate our Head of Litigation, and now, Associate Paralegal, Nik Gittins on this much deserved designation.

We always knew that September was going to be a hectic month for our Litigation Team - the sheer number of Trials in the diary meant that it was unavoidable.

Thankfully, the results in these cases have been overwhelmingly positive.

Firstly, Jawad has achieved pre-Trial settlements in three particularly difficult cases, involving Low Velocity arguments or where there were potential evidential difficulties - Jawad's readiness to negotiate hard, and to the very last minute was key in securing these settlements for his clients.

Our Head of Litigation, Nik Gittins has also been successful at Trial, twice in the last week and settled a case pre-Trial for a client whose injuries included some unpleasant psychological difficulties following their accident.

HAT TRICK!!!

Two Trial wins and one successfully opposed Appeal from Jawad see him advance to the weekend, having netted a hat-trick!!

Jawad navigated difficult opposition with the first Trial, was able to out-muscle his opposite number with the second and then, despite the fact that many others wouldn't have fancied their chances (the Appeal was a tricky proposition), Jawad held his nerve and slotted it home with confidence!

And as time is called on the working week, and eyes turn to the Football (and away from our tenuous football analogies) we wish the England boys all the best!! Bring it home!!

SUCCESS!!

To say that our litigation team have earned their weekend this week is a massive understatement:

- 3 trial wins
- 1 fraud allegation roundly defeated
- 3 tricky cases settled very favourably, pre-trial
- 1 spurious claim against our client dropped on the eve of Trial

Well done to Nik, Jawad, Rehan and Sandi!!

These outcomes are testament to their hard work and determination to get the right results for their clients and it's great to see that perseverance rewarded - enjoy your weekend folks.

And it's been another great day at Court for the team; today Jawad has succeeded in securing a win at Trial and indemnity costs against a Defendant who accused our client of braking unnecessarily when joining a busy dual-carriageway.

The Judge, having reviewed the Defendant's own dash-cam footage dismissed the Defendant's ridiculous "slam-on" allegation and awarded our client the damages due to them, which exceeded our own settlement proposal.

A just outcome, and just-reward for the hard work put in to get the client ready for Trial, well done Jawad!!

Another Trial win! Today Sandi secured a win in a liability only case where the value of our client's claim had been agreed in advance, subject to the Judge's decision.

Having gone over his case with Sandi multiple times, the Claimant gave an assured recollection of the accident, and victory at Court was assured when the Defendant driver fell apart in the witness box.

A lesson if one was ever needed that you need to test your client's evidence before running a case to Trial; we did, we won....well done Sandi!

Another good result yesterday for Rehan Hanif; after months of tense negotiations a settlement was secured at the door of the Court at a little shy of £10k.

For several weeks the Defendant's lawyers played 'hard ball' during negotiations; but on the morning of Trial they conceded ground and agreed favourable settlement; however in leaving things so late, the insurer became liable for nearly £4k more in legal costs (in addition to their own fees).

When you want to know why insurance premiums continue to rise, you can look squarely at the door of the insurers and their stubborn, often reckless (but always expensive) decisions to run cases too far, rather than engage in reasonable settlement talks.

Well done Rehan; another fine outcome.

TODAY IN 1863 the Football Association (the FA) was formed in England; standardizing the rules of "the beautiful game" and marking the split from Rugby. For more than 150-years, the sport would go on to give office workers something to talk about between 9am and 10am on a Monday morning.

After a lengthy liability dispute and countless medical appointments, the Defendants have finally folded and we have settled one of our more complex cases.

Having already achieved a favourable 80:20 split on liability (which in a "running-out" child-pedestrian case is in itself, a great result); Nik our Head of Litigation is understandably thrilled with this £75k (net) settlement!!

This should give this young person a better future, after a very difficult couple of years recovering from their significant injuries.

We are lucky that our complex injury team is capable of achieving results like this for the most vulnerable in our community. Well done to all involved!
