High-profile divorces of the very rich and famous more than often is a free for all media show and a voyeuristic thrill-ride for millions of the less well-known.
Looking to the most recent couple to throw the towel in on their 27 year long marriage, tech billionaire Bill and Melinda Gates, is this apparently amicable or pseudo-amicable the beginning of a new trend? That is the very question the divorce industry is now asking itself.

There is an increase in divorce among older couples. It is a growing phenomenon, the so ‘silver splitters’ the over 60s– and not just the rich and famous.

With the kind of high-profile and Hollywood divorces that have hit the headlines we are starting to see a pull toward mediation and working it out amicably. What always happens in society is people look at the wealthy and the movie stars and emulate them.

Letting some guy in a black robe decide your future and your kids’ future is not the best way to go, especially now our courtrooms are so congested as a result of underfunding and all the cases coming in as result of the pandemic.

So if you are in the midst of a high-conflict divorce or separation it might be time to rethink your strategy. Having the last laugh in court or taking your partner to the ‘cleaners’ kind of outlook is an outdated and unhealthy way of managing your divorce.
How about considering a ‘happy divorce’? Imagine that! It’s mad enough to make both parties laugh... 😅
Talk to us today-we can make it happen!

WHO GETS TO KEEP THE DOG? 🦴🐾🥺 Legally, there is no Act that protects the rights of a dog when couples divorce. This means that if matters were taken to court, it may be costly as ownership needs to be proven. The judge may not easily be able to make orders to decide who the dog should live with or how often (if at all) they should see the other party. 👨‍⚖️ However under UK law pets are effectively property or chattels so they will be described in the same genre of furniture. The law will therefore look to who bought it, who paid for it and who pays insurance for it. That is if either party can provide the evidence. 💰💰💰💰 Solution: PET-NUPTIAL 📃 People can become very stuck on issues when going through a divorce, whether it is about a house, a car, furniture or a pet.

It can become consuming, overwhelming and unnecessary but if you put your mind to it you can come to an agreement. 🤝🐶❤️

Are you applying for a Residence Order in the UK?
If so the courts will consider these main points:

What the child wants – although the court does not have to act on the child’s wishes, they must take it into account
The child’s emotional, educational and physical needs 👉🧒
The likely effect on any change in the child’s life 🚸
The child’s s*x, age and background, as well as anything else that the court deems relevant in respect of the child 👩‍👧
Any harm that the child has suffered or any risk of harm 😢
The capability of each parent or other person of meeting the child’s needs. This includes work commitments of the person applying for the residence order, and whether their routine is conductive to caring for the child. 📆🗓
The domestic routine of the child up until the present time 🛏🕣🍕🥗 There are of course other factors that will be considered too. All cases in the family court are decided on their own merits and just because you are the father does not mean that you won’t get a residence order. 👨‍👧
