🎁 What happens if your child inherits money before they’re 18? 👀
If you’ve left a gift to your child in your Will, you might assume they’ll simply receive it when they turn 18… but there’s a little more to it than that.
Your Will can set out who will look after the inheritance until your child reaches the age you’ve chosen. 👩⚖️ You can appoint a trustee to manage the money on their behalf.
💷 The trustee can use the inheritance for things like your child’s education, maintenance and benefit while they’re growing up.
📜 Your Will can also set out when and how your child ultimately receives their inheritance (18 being the legal inheritance age in England and wales).
It’s one of those things that’s worth thinking about when you’re writing your Will, because it’s not just about who gets what, but how and when they receive it.
