I must sort my Will out:
We know it isn't the cheeriest of subjects, but passing away without a Will (dying intestate) can often cause a great deal of distress, at a time when families are already grieving.
We recently discovered a case, where a gentleman passed away suddenly in his fifties. He had been living with his partner for over twenty years, but they were unmarried and he was still legally wed to his first wife who he hadn't seen or spoken to for nearly three decades!
When the matter was settled by Probate, his pension and assets were passed to his first wife, causing understandable suffering.
Further, the lady whom the gentleman regarded as his life partner was legally unable to access any of his bank accounts and was not allowed to sign his death certificate or make any decisions relating to the burial.
Having a professional Will written is relatively inexpensive (£100+VAT) but can save your family a lot of uncertainty and pain further down the line.
