The latest Department for Transport casualty estimates are a stark reminder that there is still much work to do to make our roads safer.

Among the figures published this week, motorcyclist fatalities increased by 13% to 384, while pedal cyclist casualties rose by 10% to 16,027. Behind these statistics are real people, families, and communities whose lives have been changed forever.

Working tirelessly within the motorcycle community, Mary Lomas continues to push for better road safety - and Mary has given her thoughts on the stats below.

At Fletchers, we see first-hand the devastating impact serious road traffic collisions can have. That’s why we’re committed to supporting initiatives that improve awareness, encourage safer road use, and help prevent life-changing injuries before they happen.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re riding, driving, or cycling, the decisions we make on the road matter.

Thank you to the many organisations and charities working tirelessly to improve safety for vulnerable road users.

Thriving does not always look like winning.

Sometimes, it looks like being honest about where you are.

Sometimes, it looks like letting people in.

Sometimes, it looks like realising you do not have to feel brave every day.

In the final video from our series with Dr Sarah Ruggins, Sarah shares how illness and injury changed the way she thinks about success, identity, and strength.

The final chapter in our Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. series, and a beautiful reminder that moving forward can still include vulnerability, support, and self-kindness.

“You don’t have to show up and fight every single day.”

In the final video from our series with Dr Sarah Ruggins, Sarah shares what thriving means to her now.

After illness and injury changed the path she thought her life would take, Sarah has had to redefine success, identity, and strength in her own way.

This final chapter of Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. is a powerful reminder that thriving does not mean never struggling. Sometimes, it means being honest, being open, and letting others carry you when you cannot carry yourself.

What does it really mean to rebuild?

For Dr Sarah Ruggins, it meant facing moments she did not feel ready for, learning to accept support, and finding strength in a way that looked very different from what she once imagined.

In the next video from our series with Sarah, she shares a powerful moment from her rehabilitation, and how it became a turning point in her recovery.

This is Rebuild, part of our Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. campaign.

This Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, we’re sharing a short but important video from Mark Campion at Mental Health Motorbike.

Mark talks about the connection between mental health and safer riding, and why checking in with yourself before getting on the bike can make a real difference.

At Fletchers, road safety awareness is an important part of the work we do with people affected by serious collisions.

This No Falls Week, we’re highlighting the serious impact falls from height continue to have on workers across Great Britain.

In 2024/25, 35 people lost their lives following falls from height. That is one person every 10 days.

A further 44,000 people were injured, with 416,000 working days lost and £764 million in costs across the country.

No worker should suffer serious injury because of unsafe equipment or poor workplace practices.

Gemma Weeks, Associate and Serious Injury Solicitor at Fletchers, said:
“It is vital that individuals feel that they are able to raise concerns when they are not happy and feel unsafe. However, when serious injury occurs following a fall, it is vital that we are reactive, and early support can make a substantial difference to an individual’s recovery.”

We’re proud to support No Falls Week and its message of prevention, protection and safer working environments.
