"Where does one start when you want to share your story about a company and a man who made a massive impact on your life?

Having been driving for nearly 40 years and not having any motoring offences blemishing my licence I was facing a ban to which means my job as a delivery driver, my sole income was at risk.

Distraught with the thought I scoured the internet looking for a law firm who could represent me.

From my very first phone call to Burton Copeland I was lucky enough to be talking to a solicitor called Mr Gwyn Lewis, who is a senior partner.

Throughout my case Mr Lewis was always there with advice and what was happening with my case and court date. Due to Mr Lewis and his expertise I am not only grateful but I feel very lucky to have had the pleasure of dealing with this man who literally saved my job and livelihood.

Many, many thanks Burton-Copeland and especially to Mr Gwyn Lewis who got me a fantastic result in not receiving a ban."

🌍 Jack's Race Across the World – Part 2 ✈️🇯🇵

The latest instalment of Jack Ashworth's sabbatical adventure is now live!

After completing a camper van journey up Spain's east coast and spending time in Barcelona, Jack's travels took an unexpected turn when he had to return to the UK earlier than planned for knee surgery.

Balancing travel plans, rehabilitation timelines and pre-booked flights to Japan was no easy task, but the operation was a necessary step before embarking on the next stage of his journey.

Despite swapping Manchester courtrooms for life on the road, Jack has continued studying for his Solicitors Qualifying Exam whilst travelling and even found time to pop back into the Burton Copeland office (with donuts in hand to ensure he wasn't forgotten too quickly!).

With surgery now behind him and rehabilitation underway, attention turns to the next chapter: a six-month adventure across Asia, taking in Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore.

We wish Jack a speedy recovery and look forward to following the next stage of his incredible journey.

Mr J had been charged by the police with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of class A drugs.

Mr J had no previous convictions. He had arrived home one evening and believed that his flat was being burgled, so he called the police. Upon police arrival, Mr J was outside of his flat in the communal hallway holding a crowbar.

He was arrested for having possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and when searched was found to have he**in and crack co***ne on his person.

When Mr J was interviewed by the police he accepted his possession of the crowbar and the drugs.

At the first hearing Sam Corcoran, Associate & Supervising Solicitor at Burton Copeland, raised with the prosecution that Mr J was not in a ‘public place’ at the time the police found him in possession of the crowbar. Case law has further expanded this definition and consistently found that landings and corridors in blocks of flats are not public places but are in fact private places.

The prosecution upon reviewing the charge were persuaded that there was not a realistic prospect of conviction and the charge of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place was withdrawn.

As Mr J had no previous convictions and had made full admissions to his possession of the drugs for personal use when interviewed, the prosecution agreed that those charges could be referred back to the police for a caution.

"Had to use a defence solicitor recently and was supported by Samantha.

She was excellent and very professional. In my opinion she went above and beyond as well as making me feel at ease. Definitely a credit to the profession and the company.

Hoping not to find myself needing her help again but 100% would recommend."

We did it! 🎉

On 31st May, Team Burton Copeland successfully completed the Manchester 10K in support of Manchester Youth Zone, and we're delighted to share that we raised an incredible £850 for this fantastic cause.

A huge congratulations to our Managing Director, Daniel W**d, and Trainee Solicitors, Damian Gwiazdowski and Lucy Fraser. For Damian and Lucy, this was their first ever 10K, while Dan dusted off his running shoes for a return to race day action!

Most importantly, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and supported us along the way. Every pound raised will help Manchester Youth Zone continue its vital work supporting and empowering young people across the city.

We're incredibly proud to have played a small part in helping create opportunities for the next generation.
