When Japanese Knotw**d grows, it spreads far and wide, and will exploit any weak points in concrete, tarmac, waste and water pipes, walls, foundations and anywhere else its vast roots spread and will pop up and grow and continue to spread underground.

This is how extensive the root system of Japanese Knotw**d grows, with a typical thicker root and a multitude of smaller roots growing from the main root.

The roots can grow 3 metres deep and 7 metres wide, and a new growth can spurt up out of the ground anywhere from that root system, and the process starts again, and again, and again.
