Families come in many different forms, and the people who matter most are not always recognised by law. For many individuals and couples, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community, family life can include chosen family members, co-parents, step-parents, and close friends who provide care, support and stability.

In our latest insight, Kathryn Tunbridge highlights the importance of planning ahead and putting clear arrangements in place, helping to ensure your wishes are understood and respected both during your lifetime and after your death, and that the relationships that matter most are properly recognised when decisions need to be made.

We’re pleased to have successfully advised the Partners of BpH Wealth Management on its successful sale to AAB Wealth.

This strategic acquisition brings AAB Wealth’s total Assets Under Advice to over £2.5 billion.

The Brachers team was led by Matt Simmonds (Corporate Partner) and included Dan King (Corporate Partner), Joe Burrows (Corporate Solicitor), Thomas Wells (Corporate Solicitor) and Charlotte Berthel (Corporate Paralegal).

Michael Freedman, Founder of BpH Wealth Management, commented:

“Joining AAB Wealth marks an exciting new chapter for our business. From day one, our focus has always been simple: to put our clients’ values, goals and families at the heart of every piece of advice we give.

That philosophy won’t change. If anything, becoming part of AAB Wealth strengthens our ability to deliver it. With the additional expertise, resources and support of the wider team, we can continue to offer thoughtful, personal advice while helping clients navigate an increasingly complex financial landscape.

I want to personally thank Matt Simmonds and his team at Brachers for their outstanding support and guidance throughout the transaction process. Their deep knowledge of transactions in the financial services sector and enthusiasm to get our deal done were invaluable.”

The Employment Rights Act 2025 introduces major reforms to unfair dismissal law, significantly increasing risk for employers from January 2027. These reforms are expected to drive more claims, increase scrutiny of everyday dismissal decisions, and blur the line between routine and high-risk cases.

In our latest insight, Catherine Daw outlines the key changes, including the removal of the compensation cap and a reduced six-month qualifying period, and what they mean in practice for dismissal decisions.

We were delighted to sponsor the Secondary School Teacher of the Year category at the Kent Education Awards 2026, hosted by Social Enterprise Kent earlier this month, and we’re thrilled to congratulate this year’s winner, John Still.

Mr Still was recognised for his outstanding support of a student, helping to build confidence, develop key skills, and create a more positive experience of school through a safe and supportive environment.

At Brachers, we are passionate about supporting those who make a lasting difference in our communities. Mr Still’s impact is a powerful reminder of the vital role educators play in shaping the future.
