6am starts and 7pm finishes for my work every day this week and again tomorrow. This week has been a full on combination:

*squeezing in 4 client meetings to see new clients about life interest trust Wills, trusts and powers of attorney
*preparing inheritance tax returns for clients to sign and pay inheritance tax on over £million estates
*drafting Deeds of Variation, Deeds of Appointment to terminate trusts, distribute funds or appoint new trustees
*drafting declarations of Trust on property values pushing £2million and income declarations for high earners
*fixing a trust issue with the land registry for a conveyancing colleague as it had become very complex to handle
*instructing estate agents to sell houses
*assisting people and taking on new clients who have been affected following the closure of a huge firm of solicitors
*applications for probate where wills have been lost or no surviving executors
*liasing with USA lawyers to collaborate on estate admin where assets held here and UK and liaising with several accountants to finalise estate returns
*started today with preparing a complex will to protect a multi million pound business value (inc tax reliefs) with remainder of estate in trust to protect from future risks due to family circumstances

Then not forgetting after 7pm that it doesn’t stop there and my 2 children have their demands, my need to keep up my own gym routine and feeding the family good food and the dogs needing attention….

So, I’m signing off tomorrow and when time runs out, time runs out so see you all when I’m back to work on 9th March

The other day my son asked if I was a therapist 🤷🏼‍♀️

Obviously, I’m not but what I do is not just write Wills 🙄

This is where my career has progressed to after 25 years qualified, first as Chartered Legal Executive and then as a Solicitor, and I have a depth of knowledge and understanding that I bring with me.

My past experience has been in litigation and family divorce work. I understand, far too much, even from my personal experience, that family relationships are complex - often difficult and break down. Fall outs and disputes happen.
Never be ashamed to tell me! 😌

I’ve owned a business with staff and I’m all too fully aware of how a business can run into difficulties, the hard issues faced and insolvency. I’ve hit rock bottom, struggled but put on a happy face and finally declared myself bankrupt with business failure. If you’ve ever been through it, it’s the most surreal ‘best thing I ever did’ and I made it back. Re-evaluated life, family, friends, what and who is important. What and who I needed to let go.

I bring the experience of this litigation (housing, debts, mortgage claims, building issues, injury, negligence), business management, business failing, relationships and family law knowledge to my appointments. I deal with multi million pound estates and plan to maximise inheritance tax allowances. My clients are located from Carlisle to Devon and I work alongside lawyers abroad.

This is not just will writing.

I’ve sat with clients as they approach end of life, clients who have been diagnosed with terminal disease or chronic health problems, spouses whose partner has dementia, widowers who have lost their love of their life but can’t now talk to anyone at all because of Covid restrictions and are incredibly lonely, clients who need to talk about their business or complex family issues, clients with disabled children and those who have left their spouse or simply have no-one in their life at all and actually just need me to figure things out for them because no one else will 😢

And… after all the life…… I administer estates, deal with the house, the pets (and the fleas), the contents (found nuclear once and oh you don’t want to know what else 🫣🤯), the banks, the nice (and the absolutely shockingly awful that you couldn’t even dream of) beneficiaries of Wills, the bills, the banks, the taxman, the funeral director and stood inbetween warring siblings who can’t even speak to other let alone want each other to know addresses so I shoulder it all instead!

I prepare the Wills and trusts personally (don’t pass it to anyone else to do! It’s my own work!) and I bring the conclusion needed by loved ones ❤️

So no, I don’t write Wills but maybe I am a little bit of a therapist and after all that I know when it’s time to ask the universe to help with healing and take a moment for me to reconfigure, have a brew ☕️ and give my dogs a fuss 🐶🐶🐶🐶

Ok… I don’t usually do this and I won’t add a photo but this is ChatGPT’s caricature of me…

‘Rebel Counsel for the Defence of Common Sense” energy:
Nature-rooted but razor-sharp
Lawyer brain switched on, barefoot anyway
Magnesium > everything
Reads the fine print, questions the footnotes, ignores the press release
Calm, grounded, quietly formidable
The little details are doing a lot of work here:
Office Closed → boundaries
Question Everything → obviously
Law book in the woods → you don’t need the system to own the system
Coffee + blazer → court adjourned, soul in session
Honestly, it feels very you.

Normally I’d post a few photos of being out and about for work and networking but it’s been an incredibly busy year of just getting work done! So much so, that I took on admin help from my wonderful niece Charlotte! 💖

Unfortunately it does mean it’s pretty boring when it comes to photos - so instead a big cheers from me and thank you to everyone who has kept me busy! It has been an absolute pleasure and I look forward to another busy year ahead. Welcome 2026 and I hope everyone has a good evening and a great year 🥳💖🥳

After being told on a continuing professional training course that we have to prepare ourselves for an increase in farmer suicides, which absolutely shocked me to the core at being told that farmers were doing this because of the tax risk to their families, I have to say that in my opinion this is very welcome news!

The Labour government has announced a significant climbdown on its policy of inheritance tax for farmers following a major backlash.

Happy Christmas!! That’s me finished with 2025 working year. Back on 5th January 🎄🎄🎄🎄
