The Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association is hosting a debate competition on the topic of assisted dying. This in-person event will provide an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their advocacy skills, respond to judicial-style questions from judges, and receive valuable feedback from the judges.


What to expect from this event as an attendee :

1. Witness excellent advocacy skills and debating techniques.

2. Gain insight from judges’ feedback on legal arguments and presentation.

3. Develop understanding of key legal issues on this topic.

4. Network with barristers, students, and members of the legal community.

Who can Attend
Students and Members of MTYBA.

The ticket fee for this event is £ 10. Link for booking in the Bio.

The debate will take place from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on 25 September, followed by an hour of networking from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with drinks and food available.

The Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association (MTYBA) is pleased to host an online event themed “Pupil Experience.”

This event will feature recently completed pupils sharing their personal experiences of pupillage, including what to expect during the first and second six months, the challenges and opportunities involved, and practical advice on how to successfully navigate this important stage of a barrister’s career.

The Middle Temple Young Barristers' Association is pleased to announce the launch of the MTYBA Assist Award 2026/27.

This new initiative has been established to support the professional development of both aspiring and practising barristers by providing financial assistance towards opportunities that enhance legal skills, experience and career progression.

The award may be used towards opportunities including mini-pupillages, internships, conference speaking engagements, advocacy programmes, training courses, networking events and other professional development opportunities.

Two awards of £250 will be available:

• Unregistered Barrister Award – £250
• Practising Barrister Award – £250

Applicants are invited to submit a statement of no more than 100 words explaining how the award will assist them and how the opportunity will contribute to their legal and professional development.

📅 Applications Close: 25 July 2026
📅 Results Announced: 10 August 2026

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the inauguration of the Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association Committee 2026/27.

We are grateful to all distinguished guests and members of the Middle Temple Young Bar who joined us and made the evening a success.

Congratulations to our President,Silas Osei Kwabena Boateng, on his inauguration and inspiring address. Special thanks also to Vice President Shair Alam Khan, Chair of the Elections Appeal Committee Catharine Langley, and all Committee Members for their hard work and dedication.

A big thank you to our moderator, Altamish Isaani, for an excellent job throughout the evening.

The Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association is pleased to host the Inauguration of its 2026/27 Committee.

This formal event marks the official induction of the newly elected committee and provides an opportunity to outline the Association’s vision, priorities, and key initiatives for the year ahead.

The event will also feature an open forum where members of the Middle Temple Young Bar will have the opportunity to engage directly with the leadership, raise concerns, and contribute ideas to support the future direction of the Association.

The programme will conclude with a debate competition, awards presentation, and networking reception with drinks and refreshments.

Introducing our Pre-Pupillage Officer, Jonathan Binns.

Jonathan was called to the Bar in 2023 and is currently working pre-pupillage at Stewarts Law within the Catastrophic Injury Department. He brings valuable practical insight and a clear commitment to developing a career at the Bar.

Originally from the North-East, near Middlesbrough, Jonathan moved to Leeds for university and has remained there since. He intends to practise on the Northern and North Eastern Circuits following pupillage, with a focus on medical negligence and personal injury work.

We are delighted to have Jonathan as part of the Young Bar and look forward to the contributions he will make in supporting aspiring barristers on their journey to pupillage.
