Police kept visiting my client’s home asking for a “quick chat” and saying the matter could be dealt with by a warning.
Luckily, she contacted me first.
I established that both the mother and her teenage son were actually being treated as suspects for common assault and ABH—and the proposed “warning” was a Community Resolution requiring acceptance of responsibility.
I arranged proper voluntary interviews under caution, with legal representation and an appropriate adult for the child.
Their accounts raised self-defence and defence of another.
The result?
✅ No Community Resolution
✅ No warning
✅ No prosecution
✅ No Further Action for both clients
A “quick chat” can still be questioning about a suspected offence. Always obtain legal advice before answering questions or accepting responsibility.
