Meet Maika, one of our new weaving partner from Mindanao, Phillippines. Maika is proudly from Yakan indigenous people whom comes from a long line of textile weavers. In fact, she is the niece of Ambalang Ausalin, who was a renowned Filipino master weaver of the Philippines and 1 of only 16 Manlilikha ng Bayan awardee ever. Sadly, Ambalang Ausalin has passed away just last month. Although this is truly a big loss to the country, the talent of weaving is in Maika's veins and we are happy she is helping pass on this cultural treasure to the new generations.

Happy International Women's Day!

Maligayang Pandaigdigang Araw ng Kababaihan!

For International Women's Day, we want to celebrate the fearless women who do not merely stand back against violence and discrimination but are working towards helping their own community become an army of change.
We are incredibly proud of the rural women farmers of northern Quezon who joined this 3 day workshop to fight domestic abuse. The sessions covered the steps to fighting domestic abuse, related laws around domestic violence and r**e, s*x education/consent, and how to report cases of domestic/s*xual violence and support victims.
The training empowered 23 local women leaders to become a core of legal advocates in northern Quezon.
Maraming salamat to our project partners, Women Legal Bureau, NAGSAKKA ( Nagkakaisang Samahan ng Kababaihan sa Kanayunan) and Gising Pilipinas.

We absolutely love this table runner handwoven using backstrap bamboo loom by Yakan indigenous weavers from Mindanao, Philippines.
The diamond design, called "bunga-sama" inspired by the skin of the python, is truly eye-catching. It can dress up your dining table and pay homage to the Filipino craftmanship.

For many weeks, we have not heard from people of Dinagat islands in Philippines after the super typhoon Odette. Many of our friends from Europe & UK has asked us for help to reach out to loved ones they have not heard from. Relief distribution was extra hard to get through bec they were isolated, only reachable by bangkas and the island was not popular as other islands.
We are so thankful to and Northern Mindanao Mountaineering Society for coordinating the complicated logistics, procurement (from Cagayan de Oro) and distribution by truck and boats (over 15hrs journey), to bring much needed relief and rebuilding goods to coastal baranggays, and for enabling us and our friends to help and join their cause.
Maraming salamat for entrusting us with the donation of 20 water filtration systems and to for sponsoring the immediate transfer of goods from Manila to Mindanao.
Most of all, thank you to our friends, supporters and esp Joanna Landicho and her friends from Switzerland for fundraising and donating to buy more building materials for the outreach.
Rebuilding is long and hard, but we hope this bayanihan really helped the fishing communities to start rebuilding their lives from this calamity.

Red is a traditional colour of handwoven textiles of the Cordilleran indigenous people such as those hand made by the Ikalinga weavers (in photo).
This hand woven scarf features the "Lilagtob" pattern which many believe inspired by the Gad'dang tribe's eye-like design, an ancient symbol of protection.
