Usually, these can be conducted internally. Occasionally, you may benefit from some external support.

Situations can include:

• The people who would usually conduct or support an investigation are somehow involved
• The situation is unusually complex and required additional skills.
• Everyone is busy and cannot accommodate the additional workload
• It's sensitive and an independent person would give everyone faith in the outcome.
