The English level for settlement may increase from B1 to B2 for visas like Skilled Worker, Spouse, Global Talent and Innovator Founder.
This change is expected to apply from March 2027.
⏳ 2. Refugee Status Changes
Refugees will now receive 30 months’ permission instead of 5 years, meaning they must extend their status before applying for settlement.
✈️ 3. New Visa Requirement
Nationals of Nicaragua and St Lucia will now need a visitor visa before travelling to the UK.
🇺🇦 4. Ukraine Visa Extension
Ukrainian nationals in the UK can extend their stay by another 24 months.
🇭🇰 5. BN(O) Visa Expanded
More adult children of BN(O) status holders will now be eligible for the route.
⚖️ 6. Tougher Criminality Rules
A suspended prison sentence of 12 months or more could now lead to visa refusal or cancellation.
📈 7. Possible 10-Year Settlement Route
The government is planning an “earned settlement” system, which could extend settlement timelines to 10 years.
✅ What should you do?
If you’re planning ILR or British citizenship, you may want to review your eligibility early before these changes take effect.
