Can someone really become the legal owner of land simply by occupying it for long enough?
Adverse possession, sometimes referred to as "squatter's rights", can allow someone to apply to be registered as the owner of land where strict legal requirements are met. It is a complex area and far less straightforward than the nickname suggests.
