JUSTICE FOR CARERS AND SKILLED WORKERS.
I think the government should review the powers of The Disclosure and Barring Service to ensure they are exercised reasonably and fairly. It is also important to ensure that there are no racist elements within the organization.
This is because many carers are indiscriminately being barred from working with adults and children. A lot of the workers are foreign skilled workers whose lives are being ruined by unfounded allegations made by patients.
Whilst it has been found that some carers abused their patients, a lot of carers are also subjects of abuse and false allegations by their patients, and their employers offered them no protection, but are quick to report them to the police and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Employers are quick to hold disciplinary proceedings and dismiss the carer. Even when the police decide not to prosecute or charge them, the DBS bars them from working with vulnerable adults and children. That can’t be fair.
Where is the justice and protection for the carers? Who is fighting for them? One sick patient can make an allegation and ruin someone’s life, destroy their dreams, prevent them from getting another Certificate of Sponsorship, prevent them from getting another job, and face removal from the United Kingdom for an offence they did not commit.
I have been involved in many cases like this where the allegations were ridiculous, the disciplinary hearings were kangaroo in nature, and the DBS wielded the big sticks with a standard letter used to bar innocent people.
Some of these indiscriminately barred victims are reading this, and a lot needs to be done to protect them.
