Whilst making a Will will ensure that the your wealth will pass in accordance with your wishes, it should not be overlooked that writing a Will is one of the most important things that you can do for your child. Ushering a newborn baby into the world pushes thoughts of your own mortality into the background. However the most important purpose of a Will is to nominate guardians to look after your children should they be orphaned before they are 18, and choose Trustees who will control their inheritance until they are responsible enough to look after it themselves. If you don't make a Will then the court will appoint guardians and they wouldn't necessarily choose the people you would have chosen yourself.
